My friend Jeff sent a link to this column by Jonah Goldberg, who is outraged that President Obama is taking advantage of the financial crisis to move the country toward socialism. It may make people mad to hear me say this, but Obama should do everything he is able to do to implement his agenda, whatever we call it. He was elected; the American people want him to govern them. You and I may not like what he does, but he has every right to do it, provided he doesn't violate the United States Constitution. Elections mean something. Obama ran on a platform of change, did he not? He is making changes. Republicans put up a candidate (in my opinion, a deeply flawed one), but his message didn't resonate. I truly believe that if Obama's policies fail, he will be a one-term president. Take a deep breath. Nothing that he can do in the next four years is irreversible. We will survive him. If Obama messes things up, the American people will remove him from office, just like they removed Jimmy Carter. If he succeeds, the American people will reward him with another term. In short, I don't see any point in carping. I long ago learned that things don't always go my way. If my fellow Americans want socialism, they are entitled to have it.
