Newspapers (the print versions) are in trouble. I hope they all go under. It will teach journalists an important lesson: that there is a difference (logically) between reportage and editorializing. The function of a reporter is to report. Opinions must be reserved for the editorial pages. There is nothing wrong with an editorial board being progressive or conservative, but when news stories are slanted one way or the other (either overtly or through the use of manipulative rhetoric), journalism has ceased and preaching begun. The New York Times is the worst culprit of all. It did everything it could, not just editorially, but in its reportage, to get Barack Obama elected. This is disgraceful. I renew my prediction that the Times will not survive 2009. I, for one, will celebrate this once-great newspaper's demise.
