This just in. Lance Armstrong crashed in a stage race in Spain. He was taken to a local hospital with what may be a broken collarbone. If his collarbone is indeed broken, it may prevent his participation in the Giro d'Italia, but it shouldn't affect his participation in the Tour de France, which is more than three months away. It might even help his preparation for the Tour, by preventing him from peaking too soon. I wish Lance would set his sights on winning the Tour rather than the Giro. Things are complicated by the fact that Lance's teammate, Alberto Contador, is one of the favorites to win the Tour.
Addendum: Here is the cyclingnews story. Lance did in fact break his collarbone, but apparently it's a clean break rather than a messy one. If you click the lower image, you'll see that Lance's right arm is in a sling under his jacket. How much do you want to bet that this injury motivates Lance to win the Tour de France? He has always performed best when people underestimated him.
