Read this. Note the assumption, implicit in some of the remarks, that John Yoo argued in bad faith, as opposed to reaching an erroneous conclusion in good faith. What that means is that he reached a conclusion that deviates from progressive orthodoxy. There must be no dissent in academia. Conservatives in particular are not welcome. They are not to be reasoned with or even taken seriously as thinkers; they are to be shunned and, if possible, destroyed. Academia is no longer about ideas; it is about conformity. It is as politicized an institution as there is in this country (apart from political institutions such as Congress). Take my word for it: I've been in academia since 1975, when I was 18.
