Rat Sox fans are truly insufferable. First, I saw nobody under the age of 20 at yesterday's game, which was broadcast on ESPN. What is up with that? These are grim adults watching a kids' game. They are either too selfish or too stupid to take their children and grandchildren to the ballpark. Second, there's a gray-haired man of about 55 who sits directly behind home plate at every Rat Sox game in Fenway Park. He obviously has season tickets. Most of the time, he sits emotionless, as though he were watching a gladiatorial contest rather than a baseball game. He always leaves his seat with one out to go in the game, no matter what the situation. Yesterday, for example, the Tigers were batting with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, with the Rat Sox ahead, 6-5. A home run would tie the game, perhaps sending it into extra innings. The man, of course (take note, Mark Spahn), left the park. He obviously wants to avoid crowds and traffic, but at what cost? This man, who has no sense, typifies Rat Sox fans. They are humorless, soulless, and stupid. They attend games out of a sense of duty, or to work out their psychological problems. Nobody smiles; nobody laughs; nobody appears to be having any fun. They sit grim-faced and sullen.

Addendum: I agree with this blogger. And this one. Yankee fans look positively joyous and generous compared to Rat Sox fans.
