What's your view of this? I'm ambivalent. The president of the United States has every right to communicate directly to the American people, and ought to do so. You may recall that I wrote an open letter to President Bush five and a half years ago recommending just that. But kids? Do kids have the requisite critical ability to question what President Obama says to them? Won't they simply accept whatever he says, because he's an adult with big ears? Then again, if they've been watching Bart Simpson, perhaps they won't.
