Medicine, like law, is a profession. Its practitioners regulate themselves but are largely autonomous. If medicine is socialized, as it would be if President Obama got his way, then doctors and nurses become bureaucrats. Who would go into medicine under such conditions? Has anyone thought about this? Has President Obama considered the long-term consequences of even the so-called public option? Sometimes I think the man lives in an alternate reality.
