My former colleague Richard Bett had some disparaging things to say about Arlington in a recent interview. So where does he go? To Baltimore! See here for a ranking of cities by educational level. Arlington (the home of the University of Texas at Arlington) ranks 29th in the country. Baltimore (the home of Richard's new school, Johns Hopkins University) ranks 60th. This shows that even (especially?) philosophers can be ignorant.
Addendum: It might be objected that Arlington is an oasis in an intellectual desert. Guess again. Both Dallas (54) and Fort Worth (49) are ahead of Baltimore. Indeed, there are seven Texas cities ahead of Baltimore! Perhaps if Richard had done his research, he'd still be in Arlington. Then again, given his low opinion of our students, it's best that he left. Texans don't take kindly to prejudice.
