Congratulations to the Minnesota Twins, who beat my beloved Detroit Tigers this evening, 6-5, in 12 innings. The Twins deserved to win, so, while I'm disappointed with the result, I'm not unhappy. I always like to see justice done. The Tigers not only didn't deserve to win; they deserved to lose. First, they blew an early 3-0 lead. This is the mark of an undisciplined team. Second, they allowed Minnesota to tie the game in the bottom of the 10th inning, having taken the lead in the top of the 10th. Third, and most disgracefully, they had the bases loaded in the top of the 12th inning with one out and failed to score. Sad to say, but the Tigers have still never won a Central Division title. Nor have the Kansas City Royals. The Twins have won five titles, the Cleveland Indians four, and the Chicago White Sox three. The Central Division came into existence in 1998. In a way, I'm glad the Tigers are finished for the year. Now I can enjoy the playoffs. The past three weeks have been hard on me.
