This is fascinating. I admit to being wrong about something. I thought that government-funded health care would refuse to hold people responsible for their choices—on the ground that that would be "judgmental." Everything would be considered a disease: alcoholism, drug addiction (including addiction to tobacco), obesity. Those of us who make responsible choices about diet and exercise would be made to subsidize those who don't. It appears that it's just the opposite. Many proponents of government-funded health care want to discriminate against the obese, on the ground that, by virtue of their bad choices, they impose costs on others. This is as it should be. Why should responsible people have to subsidize those who are irresponsible? Please don't say that people are not responsible for their weight. Of course they are. I have yet to see food leap off a plate into someone's mouth.
