This makes no sense to me. A relief pitcher for a last-place team that was never in contention wins the American League Rookie of the Year Award. Elvis Andrus, who played 145 games for a second-place team that was in contention for much of the season, finished a distant second. The vote should have been unanimous for Andrus. Although a rookie, he plays with the poise of a veteran. You might say that I'm biased in favor of Andrus, since he plays for my adoptive team, the Texas Rangers. That's one way to look at it. Another is that I, unlike the voters, watched this young man play every day for six months. I saw the many things he does, both offensively and defensively, to help his team. The snub will surely make him play even harder, especially against Oakland.
