Computer One of my colleagues sent a link to this Wall Street Journal story about office technology. I may have mentioned this before, but a few years ago I had a university-owned computer in my office on campus. The university sent a memorandum around asking everyone to list the software on his or her computer. That did it. I told my chairperson to have someone take the computer. I knew that there would be nothing but headaches and hassles down the road, with the university requiring updates, lists, and other things. I work at home, on my own equipment, with my own Internet connection and e-mail address. My office on campus has a desk, a chair, a file cabinet, and an empty bookcase. It's where I sit during office hours.
