If I were President Obama, I'd be worried. Saturday Night Live is mocking him. This means that young people are starting to mock him, which means that his aura of youthful cool (and invincibility) has been shattered. There goes a second term. Let's do our best to prevent him from destroying the country during his first term.
Addendum: What makes President Obama and his team so risible is their earnestness. They truly believe that they know better than the American people what is best for the American people. Opposition to their plans, projects, and policies cannot possibly be genuine (or respectable); it has to be manufactured ("astro-turf"), rooted in ignorance, or rooted in bigotry. Earnestness is the hallmark of progressivism. Karl Marx was ever so earnest. It is also the perennial target of comedians. I expect the mockery of President Obama to increase, both in intensity and in quantity. Perhaps by 2012 he won't be viewed as the Messiah. He will be just another well-intentioned but wrongheaded progressive—more likely to make things worse than to make them better. What remains to be seen is whether the elite media, such as the New York Times, follow the comedians. I suspect that they will, for they do not want to be viewed as uncool. This does not mean they will stop being progressive; that will never happen. It means they will look for someone besides Obama to wear the progressive mantle. Hillary Clinton, anyone?
