Sport This is just sad. Sport is about excellence—about doing one's best within the confines of the rules. It is a rule-governed activity, like chess, a criminal trial, and parliamentary debate. If you break the rules, you are no longer participating in the activity; you are abusing it. Sport is not about fame, wealth, or glory. The true athlete competes for the sake of competition, not for the sake of that which flows from success in the competition. I blame parents for not instilling proper values in their children. Maybe I'm naive; maybe I'm idealistic; maybe I'm stupid; but that's the way I see it. You shouldn't go into sports if you view them as means to some further end. Athletic competition is, and should ever remain, an end in itself, like knowledge, friendship, and happiness.
