Here is a story about two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador. I hope nobody who reads this blog thinks I disrespect him. Nothing could be further from the truth. He is a magnificent young cyclist, one of the best of the past generation. He is probably the best pure climber in the professional peloton (though Andy Schleck might have something to say about that), and his time-trialing skills have developed remarkably fast for someone so slight of build. But Lance Armstrong is no slouch. He trains insanely hard; he has much more experience than Contador; he has the best coach (Johan Bruyneel); and, most importantly, he has an indomitable will. Next year's Tour will pit the grizzled veteran against the upstart. It'll be father against son (so to speak), master against protégé, old against young, experience against youth, New World against Old World. I can't wait.
