The New York Times is fixin' to charge people for its product. Here is a column by Robert Wright. The comments on Wright's column are interesting. I haven't read a New York Times op-ed column in at least a year. Not one of its columnists interests me: not Paul Krugman (dishonest), not Bob Herbert (softheaded), not Maureen Dowd (childish), not Gail Collins (shrill), not David Brooks (effete), not Frank Rich (hateful), not Nicholas Kristof (boring), not Thomas Friedman (boring), not Charles Blow (fixated on race), not Roger Cohen (fixated on Iran), and not the new guy, Ross Douthat. I visit the Times's website each day for two reasons: (1) to read the letters to the editor; and (2) to see how much bias creeps into its "news" stories. (I also read an occasional editorial opinion, mainly to spot fallacies.) The Times is a disgrace to journalism. The sooner it goes under, the better. I predict that the proposed pay wall will send it under for good.
