I'm glad I decided to require full names from commenters on this blog. It keeps things civil. I feel as though I know most of the regular commenters, and I appreciate the support. On some blogs, people post comments anonymously. Is it any surprise that many or most of them are nasty? Who needs that? I want a community, however small, of like-minded people who know each other's names and personalities (to some extent) and who treat each other respectfully. Every now and then I get a nasty comment, which I delete. I don't even read comments that come in without a full name, because I have learned from experience that most of them are mean-spirited and some downright hateful.
I realize that my interests are not identical to those of anyone else. I'm sure that each reader is put off by something that interests me, whether it's running, cycling, animals, baseball, or heavy-metal music. This blog has always been my generic literary outlet. Yes, I'm a professional philosopher, and yes, some of my posts are philosophical in nature, but many have nothing to do with philosophy, which is, after all, only part of my life. Thanks for visiting. I am honored to have regular readers and I always enjoy the comments you submit.
