I pay $60 per year for the odometer you see on this blog. It supposedly keeps track of the number of visits. But something weird is going on. A few weeks ago, my traffic fell precipitously, from about 650 visits per day to about 350. I have a theory about what happened. My old blog, AnalPhilosopher, was recently rendered kaput by PowerBlogs, which is no longer in business. Perhaps the "lost" visits were from people who went to that blog via a Google search. I'm currently in the process of importing those posts to TypePad (see here), so, if this theory is correct, it may be only a matter of time before my numbers return to normal (or some semblance thereof).

As if that's not weird enough, I'm getting radically different readings with TypePad's "pageview" software. Yesterday, for example, the odometer showed that I had 425 visits, but TypePad says I had 601 "pageviews" (whatever that is). The day before that, the odometer showed that I had 432 visits, but TypePad says I had 899 "pageviews." Evidently, different things are being counted. Does anyone know what's going on? It's all very confusing to me. Not that it matters, really, but I'd like to know whether I'm getting my money's worth from the company that supplies the odometer.
