My university (the University of Texas at Arlington, which aspires to be a tier-one university) has fallen on hard times, despite soaring enrollment. Every unit must cut 3% of its budget. We're a small department, so we had to cut our telephones. Ha! I told my departmental chairperson that I have an extra chair in my office that we could auction off. Do you have any other ideas for cutting the budget? I would suggest eliminating an administrative position or two, or three, but that would not sit well with the administrators who make these decisions.
