I hate to sing the praises of a player from another team, but Ricky Romero of the Toronto Blue Jays is the real deal. Today, in Toronto, he pitched a five-hit complete-game shutout against my adoptive team, the Texas Rangers. He struck out 12, including Michael Young three times and Josh Hamilton four times. Romero is 4-1 on the year, with a 2.88 earned-run average. The Blue Jays are soaring. The Boston Rat Sox will be lucky to finish third in the five-team division. They could easily finish fourth.
Addendum: The Chicago Cubs have lost eight of 10. Lou Piniella will be fired by Friday. Write it down.
