Steven Pinker is interesting, but sometimes he's too clever by half. In this op-ed column, he assimilates Twitter, PowerPoint, text messaging, Internet search engines, and other "electronic technologies." Are there no relevant differences between these technologies? Can't some of them make us stupid and others stimulate our brains? I have yet to understand the point of Twitter, for example, but I use a search engine many times each day to good effect. Calling all these technologies "electronic" does not mean that they have anything significant in common.
