I drove my parents' Hummer 622 miles during our recent vacation to Mackinac Island. In 1982, I covered all of that and more (742 miles) during my 10-day bike tour. It's amazing how different the scenery appears at 60 miles per hour as compared to 12. The best part of this year's vacation is that not much has changed along Lakes Huron and Michigan. The lighthouse at Presque Isle is the same. (Click the image.) The roadside park near Cheboygan is the same. The island is the same. The beautiful winding road between Cross Village and Harbor Springs is the same. Good things should not change.
