Here are scenes from today's prologue in the Tour de France. Fabian Cancellara won the prologue (5.53 miles) with an average speed of 33.18 miles per hour. Lance Armstrong finished fourth of 197 riders, which means he is in great shape. He took five seconds out of Alberto Contador. That's not much, in the scheme of things, but it constitutes a psychological victory over the defending champion. Here is a preview of tomorrow's stage.
Addendum: The last-placed rider (not counting the two who crashed) averaged 28.36 miles per hour.
