Baseball is a funny game. Just before the All-Star break, the first-place Texas Rangers (my adoptive team) lost four straight games—at home!—to the worst team in Major League Baseball, the Baltimore Orioles. Katherine and I were present at the fourth game. Immediately after the All-Star break, the Rangers won three of four games in Fenway Park against a good (albeit crippled) Boston Red Sox team. Had the Rangers not blown yesterday's game (don't get me started), they'd have swept the Sox. My Rangers now go to Detroit, to play my beloved Tigers, so I will be unable to root one way or the other for the next three days.
Addendum: Seven of the eight American League games yesterday were decided by one run.
