Here is the final kilometer of today's stage of the Tour de France. The stage winner was British cyclist Mark Cavendish (again!), who averaged 23.53 miles per hour for 63.6 miles. Alberto Contador wins his third Tour, which puts him into an elite company. It's possible that he will win seven Tours, like Lance Armstrong, but I wouldn't bet on it. Five is more reasonable. I expect Andy Schleck to be back with a vengeance in 2011. Had his brother Frank been with him on the steepest climbs this year, he might have dethroned the champion. As for Armstrong, he finished 23d of 170 finishers, 39:20 behind Contador. Armstrong's comeback was not what some hoped it would be. He finished third a year ago, but looked like an ordinary rider this year. (Okay, a talented but aging rider.) I enjoyed this year's Tour. I hope you enjoyed these updates.
