My adoptive team, the Texas Rangers, has the biggest lead in Major League Baseball: seven games. It's been fun watching these boys. Their manager, Ron Washington ("Wash"), is a genius. If the playoffs were held today, the match-ups would be as follows:

  • Chicago White Sox @ New York Yankees
  • Tampa Bay Rays @ Texas Rangers
  • St Louis Cardinals @ San Diego Padres
  • San Francisco Giants @ Atlanta Braves

My beloved Detroit Tigers are faltering, largely because of injuries to key players. Yesterday, in fact, they were no hit by Matt Garza of the Rays. The game was on ESPN, but I didn't watch it. I'm glad. It's good to see the Braves back in the pennant hunt. Maybe their fans will appreciate success this time around. They came to take winning for granted. Nothing in baseball should be taken for granted.

Addendum: As crazy as it sounds, the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex could have a World Series champion and a Super Bowl winner within the space of three months.
