Summer We had a hot August in North Texas. The average high temperature for the month was 100.4º Fahrenheit. The highest high was 107º. We also had two 105º days and four 104º days. The lowest high was 81º, which felt cool. We reached the century mark 22 times in 31 days. I didn't allow the heat to deter me from my appointed rounds. I rode my bike five times (including 101.5 miles at the Hotter 'n Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls); I ran nine times (3.1 miles each); I did four brisk walks (4.3 miles each); and I played softball once—for a total of 19 activities in 31 days. (This does not count the many walks with Shelbie.) September is usually a mixed bag, weatherwise. It'll be hot for much of the month, but there will be stretches of cool, dry air from time to time, which will remind us of what's to come. I'm ready for fall. Are you?
