To the Editor:
I applaud Anna Holmes and Rebecca Traister for expressing their
frustration with Sarah Palin’s attempts to co-opt the progressive
feminist agenda (“A Palin of Our Own,” Op-Ed, Aug. 29).
It is ironic that as women have gained parity in many fields, they have
allowed themselves to be co-opted by those in positions of power. And in
continuing to play by men’s rules, they have ceded their leadership to
extremists on either end of the spectrum.
Women have not yet realized, as Ms. Holmes and Ms. Traister suggest,
that this is a high-stakes game in which women on the left and in the
middle have much to lose by their inaction.

To the Editor:
The argument that the Democrats need “A Palin of Our Own” is
disheartening and misguided. The need for a cogent message is long
overdue, but the need for a mean-spirited and ignorant leader is
unfounded.
Sarah Palin’s message of divisiveness based on false statements needs to
be drowned out by a democratic voice of interconnectedness and
intelligent statesmanship based on an educated electorate, and that
voice should be raised by men and women alike.

Note from KBJ: Feminists are realizing, to their horror, that they don't speak for women.
