How funny to see Kathleen
Sebelius, secretary of Health and Human Services, chastising insurers
for wanting to raise rates for this administration's new health-care
mandates ("U.S. Rebukes Health Insurers," Marketplace, Sept. 10). What did she expect?

Mrs. Sebelius's health-care cosmos seems to have unbounded expectations devoid of basic economics.

The Obama administration
reveals its ineptitude at basic business methods. When you increase
coverage included in an insurance policy, the average citizen has enough
common sense to know that somebody will pay more for the coverage.

Regarding
your editorial, "Sebelius Has a List" (Sept. 13): Not only is Kathleen
Sebelius's behavior thuggish, she is being disingenuous. The reality is
that the states regulate health-care rates, and if rates go up, it is
because the underlying costs have increased, and documented proof has
been given to the state regulators to approve rate increases. Sec.
Sebelius knows this.

It
is worth noting that this is very similar to the techniques used in the
1990s by Deborah Senn, the Washington State Insurance Commissioner,
when she publicly put the word out that insurance agents were not
allowed to say that any of the rate increases of that time were due to
the laws and regulations recently created in the state.

Do the Democrats not believe in the truth or the First Amendment?
