Here is a sad story from the world of cycling. Three-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador admits to having a banned substance in his body, but says he got it from eating meat. Why should that matter? If the substance is banned and it helped him win, then he had an advantage over other cyclists and doesn't deserve the award. I have said many times that there has to be a strict-liability policy in sport; otherwise, athletes will say that they were injected unwittingly by their doctors or that somebody slipped something into their food or drink. A strict-liability policy will force athletes to monitor what is put into their bodies. By the way, Lance Armstrong has never tested positive for a banned substance, and he has been tested more often than any athlete in the history of the world. Roll that around in your head for a while.
