Texas Rangers Katherine and I attended this evening's playoff game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Texas Rangers. It's the first playoff game in Arlington since 1999, when the Rangers were swept by the New York Yankees. There was a sellout crowd, naturally: 51,746. We had great seats. The weather was perfect. Unfortunately, the Rangers blew 1-0 and 2-1 leads and lost, 6-3. When Carlos Pena hit a two-run homer to make it 6-2, the air went out of the balloon. Fans sat down and became quiet. We had hoped to see an on-field celebration, but it was not to be. With any luck, the Rangers will put the Rays away tomorrow, because it will not be good to go back to St Petersburg for a fifth and deciding game. Michael Young and Josh Hamilton stunk up the place today, going zero for eight with four strikeouts. I expect great things from them tomorrow.
