To the Editor:

Sarah Palin is merely the apotheosis of a long-established American idea: educated people are suspect. This used to refer to actual educated people; now, however, it seems to include anyone who has even a passing acquaintance with the English language, or any other academic subject, like the Bill of Rights.

With Ms. Palin, we have arrived at the logical extension of this idea, which was described by Alexis de Tocqueville. And if you’ve ever heard of de Tocqueville—well, you know what Ms. Palin would say about that.

Note from KBJ: I'm willing to bet my house that (1) Sarah Palin has a higher IQ than Suzanne Zaharoni and (2) Sarah Palin knows more about history and government than Suzanne Zaharoni.
