I don't think I've ever seen a story so absurd in the Journal as the article about wheelchairs for pigs, chickens, dogs and other mere animals ("A New Set of Wheels Can Improve a Dog's Life, Too," page one, Oct. 21).

A $1,200 wheelchair for a quadriplegic dog. Are you unable to see the insanity of that? Why didn't you print the view from the other side that says such over-the-top concern for animals is misguided nonsense and an utter waste of money?

Any sheep farmer worthy of the name would promptly euthanize a deformed lamb. The owner of "Spin," the lamb, is obviously a naive, sentimental amateur.

Gee, maybe "downer" cows at the stockyards should be rescued and fitted with wheelchairs.

What the heck is going on in this country?

Note from KBJ: The letter writers would have no trouble if the money used for these carts had been used for jewelry or a vacation. Think about it.
