Paul Krugman hates Texas because it is a right-to-work state and because it has no income tax. Yes, Texas has fallen upon hard times, though not to the same extent as other states. The hard times will be alleviated by spending cuts and by elimination of bureaucratic waste. The state spends too much money on unjustifiable social programs. If Krugman wants cradle-to-grave protection against life's contingences, then he should live elsewhere. Texans prefer self-sufficiency, individual liberty, and personal responsibility.
