The editorial board of the New York Times didn't like the reading of the United States Constitution on the floor of the House of Representatives. The board says that the reading suggested that the Constitution is "seamless and perfect." Who says that the Constitution is seamless and perfect? Certainly no conservative believes that. If it were perfect, it wouldn't have been amended 27 times. But that's just it: The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, provides for its own amendment. If you don't like some provision of the Constitution, you are free to try to amend it. The editorial board doesn't like this process. It prefers that unelected and unaccountable judges "interpret" the Constitution so that it conforms to progressive values. In other words, the board doesn't take the Constitution seriously as our fundamental law.
