Yesterday evening, after the Super Bowl, Katherine and I watched Once Upon a Time in the West (1968). What a strange movie! The opening scene is fantastic, but much of the rest of the movie is absurd. I had no idea who the characters were, how they were related to one another, or what motivated them. The dialogue was stiff and sometimes incomprehensible. The plot was obscure. To add insult to injury, the movie is too long (165 minutes). The camera lingered far too long on faces. (Are we supposed to glean character and motivation from facial expressions?) Even after reading the blurb on the back of the DVD, I don't understand the plot. Has anyone seen this abomination? Can someone explain the plot?
Addendum: Here is the trailer.
