Here is a blog post by Peter Wehner. I watched Glenn Beck for the first time the other day. I was stunned. Surely the man is acting, I thought. He makes faces; he twirls; he gesticulates; he changes cadence; he alternately affects seriousness, sorrow, and joy. It's as though he is teaching a college course for students with Attention Deficit Disorder. His actions are designed to keep them awake (and focused) by entertaining them. I also noticed something Wehner mentions, namely, that Beck sees conspiracies everywhere and thinks that if we don't act now, in precisely the way he advises, armageddon will be upon us. It's all very dark and sinister. I have no doubt that I share many of Beck's values, but his manner is revolting. How can anybody watch him?
