Karl Rove misses a key point in his suggestions for a pro-growth platform for the GOP ("Message to the GOP: Austerity Isn't Enough," op-ed, March 3). A revision to the tax system will help, but the biggest help we need is freedom from many of the oppressive regulations created by unelected bureaucrats, hired by unelected bureaucrats reporting to unelected, unaccountable "czars."

We have a basic problem. We elect lawyers and send them to Washington and Hartford, Harrisburg and Salem. What do they do? They make laws. Many, if not most, laws require bureaucrats. What do they do? They earn their pay writing and enforcing regulations. We are governed by unelected bureaucrats. They suppress innovation, economic growth and drilling for oil. Free us from many of them to unleash real growth.
