To the Editor:

Re “The Best-Laid Plans” (Week in Review, March 13):

For those in the United States who have been in denial about our aging infrastructure, the terrible earthquake and tsunami in Japan should finally convince them that we need to raise the public funds to bring our roads, bridges, public buildings, water and sewer systems, schools, trains and broadband networks up to 21st-century standards.

The only way we can accomplish this is by raising taxes on the wealthy and ensuring that corporations pay their fair share of taxes. Besides the benefit of improved structures, these projects would create jobs and strengthen the economy, recreating the growth of the post-World War II decades.
