Here is a New York Times story about women in academia. If standards are lowered for members of certain groups, then members of those groups will be suspected of being inferior, even if they're not. You can't have it both ways. If you want to be respected as an equal, then you must compete on the same terms as everyone else.  If you want special treatment, then you will not be respected as an equal. Choose wisely.
