To the Editor:

Re “Take Dip Out of the Ballgame” (Op-Ed, March 31):

As one who has campaigned against tobacco use, and against tobacco advertising, for half a century, I’d agree with everything Bobby Valentine said.

But as one who has been a baseball fan for much longer than that, I’d mention one aspect of the problem he didn’t address: the spitting. To have to watch these high-priced heroes spitting endlessly from the beginning of a game to the end is nothing other than nauseating.
