Re “College Loans Weigh Heavier on Graduates” (front page, April 12):

According to Prof. Cecilia Rouse of Princeton, “College is still a really good deal” because “you’re still going to earn more over your lifetime.” Whatever happened to the idea that college is a really good deal because it improves your mind?

Note from KBJ: The letter writer is grasping at straws. The article on which she comments is about student-loan indebtedness. It is not about the intrinsic good of education. What good is an improved mind if you're slaving away to pay off your debts? And by the way, do minds really get "improved" in college? They're more likely to get indoctrinated.
