Katherine and I watched Sling Blade (1996) yesterday. I had never seen it, though one scene looked familiar. (I probably saw it while channel surfing.) I love this movie. Billy Bob Thornton's character was endearing; the acting was excellent; the plot was simple and understandable; and the setting (the movie was filmed in Benton, Arkansas) was quaint and interesting. The interactions between Karl (played by Thornton) and Frank (the boy, played by Lucas Black) were precious. It's scandalous that this movie lost to The English Patient in the competition for Best Picture. Indeed, it wasn't even nominated. I'm also surprised that Thornton didn't win the Best Actor award. (Geoffrey Rush did, for Shine.) Do you like this movie? Here is the trailer.
