IMG00127-20110510-2054 Katherine and I went to our sixth Texas Rangers game of the season yesterday evening. For the first time, it rained. By the time the rain arrived, it was the sixth inning and Texas had a comfortable lead. The rain delay was actually quite interesting. First, we got to see fans scrambling to get from their seats to cover. Then we got to see the grounds crew put the tarp on the field (and later remove it). During the delay, people were animated and giddy, perhaps because of all the alcohol they had been ingesting. (Click the image to see the tarp.)

The delay lasted 59 minutes. The game itself took 2:48, which is short. We got to see Michael Young get a single, double, and triple and Adrian Beltre get a two-run home run. Colby Lewis pitched seven and a third innings, giving up only one earned run. He came back out after the rain delay, which is unusual. Very often, a delay of more than 30 minutes or so will result in relief pitchers taking over, since the starter gets stiff and risks injury. The official attendance was 31,655, which isn't bad for a Tuesday evening.

The Rangers are struggling, so it was nice to get a victory (7-2). Katherine and I are 4-2 in games attended so far, with 14 games yet to go in our 20-game package. The Rangers are 19-18 overall and tied for second place in the American League's West Division. The Los Angeles Angels are in first place and playing well. We're going to have to beat them to make it to the playoffs, in all likelihood. Josh Hamilton will be back soon. He makes the entire team better.
