Can one consistently (1) oppose capital punishment and (2) support the killing, by the United States government, of Osama bin Laden? Prima facie, these are inconsistent; but maybe there's a relevant difference between putting convicted murderers to death and assassinating bin Laden as retribution for his crimes against humanity.
Addendum: It's not enough to cite someone (yourself, perhaps) who both opposes capital punishment and supports the killing of bin Laden; for the question would then be whether that person is consistent. We know that people can and do believe inconsistent propositions, so the inquiry is not advanced by citing particulars. In other words, focus on the positions themselves, not on people who subscribe to them.
