The United States Supreme Court has ruled that states may regulate immigration, at least by requiring employers to ensure the legality of their employees. Mark my words: Tomorrow, both the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times will condemn the ruling (albeit for different reasons). The Journal's philosophy is that if it's good for business, it's good for the country. The Times's philosophy is that if it produces more votes for Democrats, it's good. Okay, that last comment is cynical. Let me try again. The Times's philosophy is that if it redounds to the benefit of the poor or disadvantaged (even those who broke our laws to get here), it's good for the country. Neither the Journal nor the Times cares about the rule of law.
