The Look (1983). One of my favorite songs of all time. It came on randomly during today's bike ride. I thought I was going to break the sound barrier.

The all-important distinction between positive law and positive morality . . . needs to be constantly held up and enforced among us. For the confusion of these two distinct conceptions is one of the greatest dangers to which a democracy is liable. Our reformers of the present day aim to obtain reform not so much through and in the law as over and in defiance of it. Of the law itself, they have frequently the greatest ignorance, and not seldom joined with the contempt which naturally accompanies ignorance. The work of legislation is, moreover, abandoned by us to inferior men, who are for the most part incapable of understanding, much less of framing, a law. The people thus tend to separate into two classes, one of which urges and applauds the violation of any law in favor of their ideas of morality, the other of which looks upon all past laws with stupid reverence, and obstinately opposes all change, however loudly called for by the voice of reason and humanity.(Review of The Province of Jurisprudence Determined, Being the First Part of a Series of Lectures on Jurisprudence, or, the Philosophy of Positive Law, by John Austin; and Lectures on Jurisprudence, Being the Sequel to “The Province of Jurisprudence Determined.” To Which Are Added Notes and Fragments Now First Published from the Original Manuscripts, by John Austin, The North American Review 100 [January 1865]: 246-53, at 253 [ellipsis added])

Now our Whiner-in-Chief is blaming the San Juan mayor, Democrats, and fake news for his totally inadequate response to the disaster in Puerto Rico. In other words, his failures are the fault of everyone but himself.
Trump’s health insurance plans will take away coverage from tens of millions of middle-class and working people, and the main beneficiaries of his tax plan are the ultra-rich top 1 percent.
Trump is destined to go down in history as a pathetic loser and the worst president in our history.
How long will it take for it to dawn on his Trump cult supporters that they were bamboozled, and voted a narcissistic con man into office who doesn’t care what happens to anyone other than billionaires and big corporations?

.@NBCNews is so knowingly inaccurate with their reporting. The good news is that the PEOPLE get it, which is really all that matters! Not #1

Only three of the eight playoff managers—A. J. Hinch of the Houston Astros, Joe Girardi of the New York Yankees, and Joe Maddon of the Chicago Cubs—were catchers during their playing days. I would have expected five or six.

Over the past few months we have seen Trump supporters holding what they characterize as "free speech" rallies around the country, seeking to shout down those who support diversity and tolerance. Now the big man himself is calling for NFL team owners to fire players who exercise their right of free speech to protest bigotry and intolerance by kneeling during the national anthem. It's beginning to look like the only speech Trump and his people are willing to stand up for is hate speech.
