  • Dear President Pence (an office you will inevitably fill),

Do not follow in the footsteps of your former boss. Do not pardon him, his family or any of his staff as they become targets and defendants of federal prosecution. Their criminal activities occurred before and during his election to the presidency. They all participated with full knowledge of what they were doing when they did it.

While I am a Democrat, I have more respect for you than I ever did for him. You can at least lead the country instead of rule over it like the king he thinks he is. If you follow his lead then you will be putting yourself in the same hole he has dug for himself, and our country will suffer an additional three years of disgrace and division.

President Pence, you will be looked to as a leader and not as another reincarnation of what we are suffering now.

  • Michael Shermer looks at today's colleges and universities. Note that this essay was published in Scientific American. This is significant, because professors will stand up to the student thugs when (and only when) their own careers are at risk. This essay warns professors in the sciences that their careers are at risk.

  • It's sad that an essay of this sort needs to be written, and even sadder that it is controversial.

  • Richard A. Posner has retired from the bench. This is a good thing. His judicial rulings became increasingly willful (and therefore lawless) over the years. I'm glad that he never served on the Supreme Court.
