  • The June 28 letter “Unalienable right” ask a most pertinent question on managing expensive healthcare: “When will we stop wasting energy on the politics of replacing Obamacare and ramp up the conversation on what makes healthcare expensive in the first place?”

Now we have an inefficient free-market/socialist jumble that ties coverage to employment, age, and income, with millions falling through the gaps. Vested interests, including doctors, hospitals, insurers, drug companies, and malpractice lawyers, try to make as much money as possible from the sick. This makes our healthcare absurdly expensive compared to the rest of the world, but these interests don’t want that to change.

Meanwhile, Republicans see healthcare as a commodity that one can either afford or not. They want to begrudgingly and stingily cover [sic] those who cannot so they don’t have to tax the wealthy to do so. But is healthcare not a basic necessity, like police and fire protection, that government should ensure everyone gets?

    Americans, we need to decide.

  • Read this. The Cubs think the message they're sending is, "Don't criticize a teammate; it's selfish." I think they're sending a different message: "Don't criticize highly paid teammates." If I'm right, it'll eat the heart out of the team, because it creates two classes of player.

  • Follow the money:

    • Leftists hate Donald Trump. They believe that he and the nefarious Russians "stole" the election from Hillary Clinton, who was destined to be the heir to Barack Obama and the first female president. Their most fervent desire is to see Trump removed from office (preferably in humiliation). Short of that, they want him delegitimized and fettered so that he cannot undo Barack Obama's "accomplishments."
    • Executives at CNN and other "news" organizations realize that there is a market for Trump hatred, so, desirous of making a large profit, they provide it. They both feed off and fuel the hatred. CNN, for example, runs Trump down every minute of every day. It is relentless. The Trump-haters who consume what these organizations produce are saying, with their choices, that they want more of it. They are insatiable. Their hatred knows no bounds.
    • Donald Trump is a street fighter. He's not going to let CNN or any other "news" organization destroy him, his family, his brand, or his presidency. He fights back, calling the coverage "fake news" and treating "journalists" at these organizations with contempt. His press secretary refuses to call on them during press briefings and they are not allowed to use video.
    • "Journalists" at CNN and elsewhere cry foul. They bitch, moan, cry, complain, whine, and fret. Only the Trump-haters sympathize with them. Most Americans understand a hit job when they see it, and they see it here. Journalists had almost no respect before Donald Trump was elected, and they have even less of it now. They have only themselves to blame for their low status.

Why should President Trump facilitate attacks on him? He should make it clear that if and when "journalists" start acting like journalists, he will treat them like journalists. Until then, they are personae non gratae.

Addendum: Some journalists are now hoping for violence against journalists, so they can blame President Trump for it. These are the same people who celebrate depictions of violence against President Trump.

  • As I said the other day, President Trump achieved a great victory at the Supreme Court. Leftist judges and law professors should be ashamed of themselves for twisting the law to get the result they want for political reasons. Dare I say it? Trump Derangement Syndrome has infected both the judiciary and the academy. Thank God there are mentally healthy people on the Supreme Court.
