  • ConstitutionHow absurd is the reasoning of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals? Suppose Donald Trump resigns the presidency tomorrow. As soon as Mike Pence takes the oath of office, he issues the very same executive order Trump did. Since Pence didn't make the campaign statements Trump did (allegedly reflecting bias against Muslims), the courts must uphold the order. How can the constitutionality of an executive order depend on which president issues it? Mark my words: The Supreme Court will reverse the Ninth Circuit. Perhaps one of the justices will make the very point I'm making in this blog post, which is original with me.

  • The Never Trumpers are dead to me, and have been for many months. I don't visit the websites of National Review or the Weekly Standard. I don't read, watch, or listen to George Will, William Kristol, Jonah Goldberg, or any other anti-Trump conservative. They put their moral purity ahead of the best interests of the United States, and that is unforgivable. They would rather have Hillary Clinton in the White House than Donald Trump. Here is a column by Daniel Greenfield.

  • Have we arrived in Orwell's 1984? Only if we can practice doublethink can Donald Trump be considered an acceptable leader of our country. Impeachment is not a solution. It will only lead to an escalation of partisan rancor and legislative gridlock. We must rely on our system of checks and balances by which the legislative and judicial branches of government can check the rogue executive. In this way, we can hope that our democracy will survive his term(s).

The opposition party Democrats cannot lead the process of checking the president because in the current climate of extreme partisanship they will not be viewed as loyal opposition. It is up to the honorable and courageous leaders of the majority Republican party to demonstrate loyalty to country rather than party and restrain President Trump. Are there any such leaders?

    Bill Zawacki, Beaverton

Note from KBJ: Donald Trump defeated 16 seasoned Republicans and the most corrupt politician in American history. His will be one of the most accomplished presidential administrations ever. Suck it up, Bill.
